Child custody orders for possession and access NOT CHANGED OR AFFECTED by Shelter-In-Place orders

The Texas Supreme Court has clarified that possession schedules in Suits Affecting the Parent-Child Relationship are not affected by the Shelter-Place-Orders currently in effect. Parents and conservators must comply with the possession orders regardless of what the Shelter-In-Place order that was put into place by Governor Abbott.

I have copied the link at the bottom of this page that will link you to the Supreme Court of Texas website where the SEVENTH EMERGENCY ORDER REGARDING THE COVID-19 STATE OF DISASTER is able to read for your information.

I hope this helps any and all of you that have had questions about whether you are supposed to continue to with exchanges of children while the Shelter-In-Place order is in effect. As you can see, the Supreme Court of Texas has made clear that you must continue to comply with the court orders in place in your orders and/or decrees of divorce.

I hope this helps and I'm wishing that all of you remain healthy and safe during these trying times. Feel free to contact me at my office if you have questions or need to set up a web video or teleconference to discuss your particular legal issue.
